New Delhi: Automakers are set to launch and unveil around 60 vehicles at the biennial motor show in the country next year, down from over 80 products which debut at the expo in the last edition. With the local automotive industry grappling with the worst slowdown in two decades, organisers admitted several mainstream brands from Hero MotoCorp, Honda Cars India, and Ashok Leyland have opted out, but said in terms of technology showcased across vehicles it would be one of the most exciting editions visitors have seen. The 15th edition of the Auto Expo is scheduled to be held between 5-12 February, 2020 in Greater Noida.

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers President Rajan Wadhera said, “Business challenges have kept some members from participating in the expo. The vehicles on display across categories will be on new platforms given that the show is being held two months prior to the migration to BS VI norms. Automakers have developed a wide range of safety and connected features in vehicles which consumers can see at the expo.” A host of auto makers from China are set to exhibit their vehicles at the expo next year. These include SAIC-owned MG Motor, BYD and Great Wall Motor Company. They will share the stage with Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, M&M, Tata Motors and Kia among others.

After skipping the 2018 edition, Skoda and Volkswagen brand will also make a comeback at the expo. Additionally, 15-20 start-ups are set to exhibit their products at the expo. Audi, JLR, BMW, TVS Motor Company are among those giving a miss in the edition next year.

Wadhera added, “Globally, in Frankfurt and Tokyo, despite a drop in the number of participants, auto shows have had great success with visitors. As far the India show is concerned, we have found even after a year as many as 26% of the attendees were influenced by what they saw. In fact, 48% of the attendees said they added or substracted a brand as a result of attending an auto show.”
