Indian-arm of Japanese auto maker Mitsubishi will soon be launching its new updated 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander here in India and the company dealers now confirms that they will start accepting the bookings early next year. A report on Autocar confirms that the Outlander SUV’s booking might start in January or February 2018 and deliveries will commence in May 2018. Globally the third-generation Mitsubishi Outlander was first launched in 2012 and received a facelift in 2015. The SUV’s design is now in tune with other Mitsubishi SUVs like the Pajero.

New Mitsubishi Outlander is based on a monocoque chassis and measures 4695 mm in length and 1,710 mm in width. The SUV will get three row seating and will take on the likes on new Honda CR-V which also only comes in petrol engine and has three-row seating.

Mitsubishi Outlander has been featured on Mitsubishi India website for a while now and confirms it will be available only in one petrol engine option. It is likely that the car will be sold only in one trim. The company claims that the aerodynamic front design of the Outlander has helped it to reduce the coefficient of drag by 7%.  It features LED headlamps and fog lamps. Advance features like automatic headlights, auto rain sensing wipers will give the Outlander a modern touch.

Interiors of 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander is expected to come in leather finish seats and is expected to be spacious. The dashboard will feature a 6-inch infotainment system and on the safety fron the SUV will come with 6-airbags, ABS, hill-assist and stability control.

The new Mitsubishi Outlander will be powered by a 2.4L petrol engine that sheds a power of 169 hp and 225 Nm of torque. THe engine is mated to a 6-speed CVT gearbox with paddle shifters. The SUV will get the Mitsubishi’s All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.

India got the second generation Mitsubishi Outlander in 2008 and was given a major upgrade in 2010. However, with the rise in diesel powered SUVs saw less takers in petrol powered SUVs but with paradigm slowly shifting back towards petrol with issues like 2L diesel ban, we expect more petrol SUV buyers. The next gen 2018 Honda CR-V is also slated for its India debut next year is likely to be showcased at 2018 Auto Expo. Honda CR-V will be an arch rival to Mitsubishi Outlander.
