The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 facelift has been spied testing on Indian roads once again. The new model that wore heavy camouflage has been snapped on cam this time around by folks at Motor Vikatan. While looking at the spy shots, one can easily notice the new front grille and the revised bumper. The grille now looks more appealing than the outgoing model, offering it a better fascia. Besides, the new 2018 Mahindra XUV500 receives new alloy wheels that come with a different design. The bumper on the rear also gets some revisions while the tail lamp looks almost the same. There have been reports on the internet that Mahindra is working on a powerful version of the existing 2.2-litre diesel engine that is expected to churn out power close to the 170 hp figure while the torque will be bumped up to close to 400 Nm. The front wheel and all wheel drive configurations will be retained on the new version as well. The new 2018 model will come with the said more powerful motor.
Currently, the mHawk turbocharged unit produces a maximum power output of 140 hp along with 330 Nm of torque. Besides this, the company is also working on a G9 petrol automatic variant of the new 2018 XUV500 that will hit the market before the diesel trim. The new 2.2-litre motor will be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Mahindra XUV500 was launched in India for the first time in the year 2011. The SUV got one major update four years later in 2015.
The Mahindra XUV500 in its 2018 avatar will challenge the likes of Jeep Compass and the Renault Captur along with Tata Hexa. The updated model will likely be showcased at the Auto Expo next year. Besides the 2018 version of Mahindra XUV500, the brand is also working on its Aero counterpart, which is a coupe crossover version.
