Royal Enfield 750cc twin-cylinder motorcycle teased in video, to unveil at EICMA 2017

The drum roll for the new 750 cc motorcycle by Royal Enfield has been going on for long now. Spied testing in Europe and then spotted several times on Indian roads, the new motorcycle will be the most powerful in the brand’s product lineup. The big unveil is closing in and the new cafe racer, sometimes called Continental GT750 owing to its design, is expected to be revealed during this year’s EICMA in Milan. But before that Royal Enfield decided to beat the drums a little harder with a little teaser video. The video was posted by Royal Enfield chief Siddhartha Lal and reveals its exhaust note, giving little glimpse of what the production version will look like. In an interview to Car and Bike, Lal confirmed that the motorcycle will make its global debut on 7th November at the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy.

The latest from the company will be quite a distinct product compared to the rest of its portfolio. The new motorcycle’s 750cc engine is expected to generate around 50 hp of power and 60 Nm of torque. This engine would be mated to a 6-speed gearbox and will have a 270-degree crank angle for a throatier exhaust note.

The 750 cc unit is expected to be the first-ever parallel twin engine from the Chennai-based manufacturer and the development of this motorcycle will take place at Royal Enfield’s new Vallam Vadagal plant near Orgadam. As speculated earlier, that the motorcycle will go on sale first in the UK followed by its launch in India, however, the company may consider introducing the motorcycle simultaneously at both locations.

Unlike other Royal Enfield motorcycles in India, the 750 will come electronic safety features like ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). This will also make it a close competitor against the Harley Davidson 2017 Street Rod. This may be the first Royal Enfield to be offered with ABS, however, a confirmation from the company is yet to be made on any of the mentioned specifications.

Interestingly, in the month of August, a near-production-ready ‘Continental GT750’ was seen with another retro-styled motorcycle with design similarities with Triumph Bonneville. The two motorcycles have the same chassis, engine, brakes and suspension. While the cafe racer sports a single seat and a clip-on handlebar, the retro-styled motorcycle gets a pillion seat and single-piece handlebar.

The prices are expected to be under Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom) which would be pretty aggressive considering the segment it would be introduced in. It would also give an option to Royal Enfield fans in the country to choose a premium motorcycle at an affordable price tag. The new 750 cc motorcycle is expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2018.
