The superfight is finally over - and overwhelming favourite Floyd Mayweather unsurprisingly beat Conor McGregor.

In his first ever gloves-only match, McGregor survived nine rounds against Mayweather but grew visibly tired as the boxing expert's nous started to tell.

The now 50-0 champ Mayweather won on a TKO in the tenth when the referee stopped the fight with McGregor on the ropes - too early, believes McGregor, thought the Irishman won a few new fans in the boxing world.

The highly anticipated fight had been officially delayed due to technical issues with US TV broadcaster Showtime, but fans got what they paid for.

See below for all the action and reaction as it happened.

What is Floyd Mayweather's net worth after knocking out Conor McGregor?

Mayweather has changed the face of the game in terms of prize fighting.

When you can fight Andre Berto, a fringe world level fighter throughout his career, for $32m, why risk fighting Manny Pacquiao in his prime or taking on a young lion like Errol Spence Jr or Terence Crawford right now?

His fight with Manny Pacquiao broke all records, despite missing its window for a competitive duel by a few years, landing 4.6 million PPV buys, a total gate worth $73m and sponsorships totalling $13m.

All together the Pacquiao fight produced $600m to become the highest-grossing day in sporting history—wow!

The Las Vegas resident became cosy atop of Forbes rich list for highest paid athletes in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and ranked number 34 in a list of America’s richest entrepreneurs under 40 last year, but has now turned 40 years of age.

While Mayweather earned $100m basic from the Pacquiao fight, he brought home a total of $220-240m once the PPV revenue was divided up, meaning a 40 percent cut.

So Mayweather earned 120 percent more than his basic fee for fighting when it was all said and done, so we can expect at least that this time around and probably more given expectations of new records for PPV buys.

Based on Forbes’ initial $340m worth before the fight, Mayweather will now be worth at least $580m (£450m)

You'll never beat the Irish!

Conor McGregor partied like a winner after his defeat to Floyd Mayweather , defiantly telling 2,000 fans at a million-dollar after-fight bash: “You will never beat the Irish.”

Standing on stage in a floral suit, the Dublin-born mixed martial arts legend known as The Notorious then urged his fans: “Have a whiskey.”

Earlier, he had used the post-fight press conference to launch his own “Notorious” brand of Irish whiskey.

He arrived clutching the bottle in one hand and swigged from the glass in his other hand as he declared he would “take over the Irish whiskey market”.

He then went on to the sell-out after-fight party at the Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas, where he got a hero’s welcome from fans who had paid $200 – £155 – to get in.

Everyone's a winner

In the end it wasn’t a farce – and it was just about a fight.

Those who predicted Conor McGregor wouldn’t land a punch on Floyd Mayweather were wrong.

As were those who insisted his left hand would send the defensive genius through the ropes and boxing into oblivion.

As the last stragglers left the Strip for the sobriety of their hotel rooms in the early hours of Sunday morning, everyone was a winner.

That is rarely the case in Las Vegas.

McGregor emerges with credit for lasting the best part of 10 rounds with the best boxer of his generation.

Bunce: Everyone's a winner

Steve Bunce reckons ‘everyone’s a winner’ from the fight.

The pundit said, had Mayweather lost, his reputation would have been in tatters, but that of the sport of boxing would not.

“I’m standing here thinking, ‘everyone’s won’,” said Bunce.

LeBron approves of McGregor's effort

The latest big name to throw his support to McGregor is NBA superstar LeBron James.

He was impressed with what he saw from the Irishman.

James tweeted: S/O @TheNotoriousMMA!! Showed you’re a champ and monster in your own right as well. Lot of respect!”

Dana White urges McGregor to go back to UFC

UFC chief Dana White has urged McGregor to return to MMA, rather than fighting another boxing match.

“I would rather he did not (box again),” he said. “This isn’t what he does. He’s a mixed martial artist where he goes in and he fights and he uses all of his weapons. He was only allowed to use his hands.

“I think he did great. I don’t think there’s anything else left to prove. I would rather he fight mixed martial arts.”

McGregor: Judges were 'biased'

McGregor says the judges at ringside for his defeat to Mayweather were ‘biased’, after it emerged even the early rounds he appeared to dominate were scored against him.

“I think that’s very biased,” McGregor said, when told of the scoring. “I am actually shocked at that. I thought I won first three clearly.

“The fourth could have gone either way. I thought I snuck out round eight, then he won nine and got the finish. I thought I did okay.”

Floyd Sr unimpressed by McGregor

McGregor earned some plaudits for his display, but not from Floyd Mayweather Sr.

“I ain’t ever seen anyone talk like the way he talked and then go out there and fight like that. I mean that was pathetic, the way he fought.

“All the illegal punches and stuff he did, hitting someone on the back of the head. Doing everything, I mean come on man. All that kind of stuff is crazy.”

What next for Conor?

Conor McGregor will spend a few days reflecting on his defeat by Floyd Mayweather but talk will then turn to the Irishman’s next fight.

McGregor started well against the boxing legend on Saturday night before he fatigued and Mayweather’s class prevailed.

And he is now expected to return to the UFC.

His last fight in the Octagon was his win over Eddie Alvarez last November when he made history by becoming the first fighter in the promotion’s history to hold two belts simultaneously.

The 29-year-old remains the lightweight champion but has yet to defend his 155lb title.

Mayweather flaunts cheque backstage after 'Money' beats McGregor

Floyd Mayweather prefers to deal in cash - but he’ll happily take a cheque.

The American ended his boxing career with a 50th victory without defeat, and appeared to flaunt his winnings in the immediate aftermath.

Instagram video footage shows Mayweather flashing a cheque with delight behind the scenes after stopping Conor McGregor in the 10th round at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“Don’t think I didn’t get another nine-figure cheque,” he says.

Mayweather and McGregor both boosted their considerable fortunes in a major way in the richest fight of all time.

McGregor reveals the damage done in defeat

Pictures from inside Conor McGregor’s after party in Las Vegas have revealed the damage done to his face in his gallant defeat by Floyd Mayweather.

The Irishman was stopped in the 10th round by the boxing legend after getting off to a flying start that saw one judge award him the first three rounds.

However, ‘Money’ was biding his time, showed his class and pounced in a more aggressive style than usual to end the fight.

McGregor, who admitted fatigue rather than being genuinely hurt by Mayweather before the fight was stopped, appeared in pretty good shape for a losing fighter.

He sported a black eye under his left eye when he took of his sunglasses during a raucous after party in his honour.

Inside McGregor's after party - continued

So what do you drink if you earn hundreds of millions of dollars for losing a fight?

Well, Notorious Irish whiskey, officially, the new brand unveiled by McGregor after this morning’s event.

But if you were so inclined, a six-litre bottle of Dom Perignon Rose Gold champagne could set you back $125,000!

Fan in the stands video verdict

Mirror Online Sports Editor Matt Lawless joined the fans in the stands to soak up all the atmosphere in Sin City.

Here’s his verdit:

So much for the ‘circus’. This was a bona fide boxing match. And it ended as it always does for Floyd Mayweather - in victory.

The Money Man dances into retirement with his legacy firmly in tact as Conor McGregor became Mayweather’s 50th victim.

The referee stepped in to save the UFC superstar from a barrage of brutal blows with Mayweather celebrating a deserved TKO win in the 10th round.

Mayweather vowed to give the fans value for money before he retired - and he did.

But McGregor - a man who was derided and written off by many ahead of the fight - walked away with the respect of the hard old game. The 29-year-old showed he CAN fight with just his fists.

In the end, it wasn’t to be. But McGregor is by no means disgraced in the defeat and nor is the sport of boxing.

"He was better than I thought he'd be!" Fight fans lavish praise on McGregor

In the end the result went the way that many predicted, but the fight didn’t quite follow the pattern that people thought it would.

Floyd Mayweather’s 10th round stoppage of Conor McGregor in Las Vegas took the boxing legend’s career record to 50-0, but “Money” himself was the first to admit that the Irish mixed martial arts star surprised him.

“He’s a lot better than I thought he’d be. He’s a tough competitor, but I was the better man tonight,” said Mayweather after the fight.

And that was a theme that resonated with many fight fans, with many praising McGregor’s performance.

“The Notorious” came out swinging and impressed in the first three rounds, before Mayweather’s superior boxing prowess took over in the later sessions.

And that left a lot of fans pleasantly surprised at the UFC star’s professional boxing bow.

Nathan Cleverly retires: "Thank you and goodbye boxing"

Nathan Cleverly has announced his retirement after losing his WBA light-heavyweight title when being stopped in five rounds by Badou Jack in Las Vegas.

The Welshman showed his bravery with his willingness to fight on while he was being outclassed at the T-Mobile Arena, but amid his inability to defend himself from increasing punishment, required referee Tony Weeks to come to his rescue.

Having previously considered retirement following the first defeat of his career, by Sergey Kovalev in 2013, and long appeared in a steady decline, he has chosen to retire at the age of 30 with his options minimal.

“Well done to the new champ Badou Jack,” Cleverly wrote on social media. “Thank you for the opportunity to fight on this event. Also, a massive shout out to those that have supported me over the years. I’ve lived it and loved every second of the sport.

“(I have) a few too many miles on the clock. (It’s) time to say goodbye. Thank you and goodbye boxing.”

McGregor open to boxing again

Conor McGregor will consider remaining in boxing despite being thoroughly outclassed by Floyd Mayweather.

The fantasy fight between the highest-profile figures from boxing and the UFC swiftly proved a mismatch in which McGregor repeatedly avoided punishment from referee Robert Byrd for punching behind the head.

By its conclusion he was exhausted, impressing only through his resilience and determination to remain on his feet amid Mayweather’s hurtful right hands, and until Byrd’s intervention in what the American insists will be his final fight.

McGregor said:

I’m not sure what’s next.

I have multiple world titles in the UFC to think about as well as the boxing.

I’m a student of the game and I’ve studied Floyd and it was an honour to share the ring with him.

I will get back into my jiu-jitsu and freestyle wrestling training and we will see what’s next. “I have many options in the sport of MMA.

I’m young, I’m fresh and I’m ready. I was just b******sed, the term we call it in Ireland.

It was an honour to come over and showcase my skills. I’m a multiple-weight freestyle world champion and I was a little bit surprised at the disrespect I was shown (in the fight’s build-up). The disrespect for my skill took me back a little bit.”

'Money' stopped from betting $400k on McGregor fight - here's why

Floyd Mayweather was blocked by bookmakers when he tried to place a massive bet on himself hours before the fight.

Mayweather is said to have tried to bet $400,000 he would finish off debutant boxer Conor McGregor in under 9.5 rounds.

It turned out he would have just scraped that - the bout lasted 9 full rounds but Mayweather won with a minute to spare before the 9.5 round mark.

However, the bookmaker apparently wanted to check the fighter was legally allowed to bet on his own fight.

Mayweather is then said to have tried to change the wager to winning by a knockout - and his tenth round TKO would have counted.

While the bookmakers looked up the rules, ESPN report that Mayweather grew tired of waiting and left.

It turns out Nevada State authorities do not have any rules stopping fighters from betting on themselves so the bets would have been accepted.

Frank Warren on McGregor: 'He’s brave, he’s got a big heart... but he can't box'

Boxing promoter Frank Warren was critical of the quality of the fight and he believes the Irishman was “totally out of his league” to stand in the ring with one of the greatest boxers of all-time.

Warren pulls no punches in his assessment of the fight:

I’ve never seen him fight as a boxer but having watched that, he can’t box.

He’s brave, he’s got a big heart but he’s not a boxer and like Lennox (Lewis) did say, he (Mayweather) took him to school.

He was just out of his depth. He won the first three rounds but Floyd barely threw a punch, he’d been out of the ring for two years, (and) 40 years of age. And by the way, I didn’t think Floyd looked so good at times in the fight.

But he (Mayweather) knew that he could walk through this guy, he knew after five rounds that McGregor had never been five rounds and that he could just wear him down.

I’m confident that British (welterweight) champion Bradley Skeete could beat him. He’s not a boxer. It just showed that he was totally out of his league.

It was what it was, two cultures - UFC and boxing - those two cultures clash and the bottom line was that Conor McGregor should stick to UFC, that’s the fact of life.

It brought the whole world’s attention to boxing and it seems people are pleased with what they have seen. The two guys have made a lot of money and good luck to them. And Conor McGregor has more money than probably most British boxers combined in their whole careers.”

Will more UFC fighters have a crack at boxing now?

UFC fighter Danny Roberts does not believe there will now be a flood of mixed martial artists heading for the ring.

Asked whether Mayweather-McGregor sets a precedent for UFC fighters to take on boxers in the future, he said: “I can understand it, but at the same time I feel this is a one-off, the best of the best from two combat sports.

“As much as people want to talk about it from the outside, I don’t necessarily think it is going to happen again, it was a spectacle.”

McGregor or Fellaini?

It was arguably the biggest sporting event of the year - and Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregorwent down pretty much like everyone predicted.

Despite a strong start from the Irishman, from round three onwards ‘Money’ began to take control of the fight.

In the ninth round The Notorious was swaying, struggling to stay on his feet. Smelling blood, the American ended it a round later.

As befitted a fight of this magnitude, it didn’t take long for Twitter’s comedians to compare the bout to some funny memes.

Carl Froch's view

“He (McGregor) did well from the fact that he’s a mixed martial artist. If that was a boxer, you’d say it was an outclassed job, a mismatch.

“In reality, he (Mayweather) was in there with a UFC fighter. Conor came, he was proud, he tried, he didn’t go over.

“It was a great event, promotion, a good show, we’ve all been on the edge of our seats. But what happened is what we thought would happen.”

I mean, it was McGregor’s first fight!

Conor McGregor's old foes take aim at Irishman

Rivals of Conor McGregor took little time to get their digs in at the Irishman following his defeat to Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor was stopped in the 10th round by The Best Ever, losing his debut professional bout.

The Irishman had spoken in the build-up of taking over boxing and knocking out unbeaten Mayweather inside four rounds.

However, in the end he could do little to stop Mayweather taking his record to 50-0, McGregor ending up overmatched against one of the sport’s all-time greats.

Conor McGregor vows to 'take over the Irish whiskey market'

Conor McGregor rocked up to his post-fight press conference drinking from a bottle of whiskey.

And as he took to the podium at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, he yelled: “Notorious Irish whiskey - coming soon.

“I’m going to take over the Irish whiskey market - and this is delicious!”
